Scott Minto has issued his verdict on the way Ange Postecoglou has conducted himself around the surreal game between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City this week.

Spurs fans were put into an incredibly strange position heading into Tuesday’s clash with Manchester City, with Tottenham knowing that a victory would put Arsenal on pole position to win the Premier League title ahead of the final day of the season.

But Ange Postecoglou‘s side had the chance to keep their Champions League hopes alive with a win over the champions, and it was quite clear that Postecoglou had absolutely no interest in entertaining the idea of there being an upside to Spurs losing.

Postecoglou was involved in a confrontation with a fan behind the dugout, and his anger was evident in his post-match interviews.

Some may view it as a dangerous game from Postecoglou to seemingly take on the supporters, particularly with Tottenham not having the best second-half of the season.

But speaking on the Premier League All Access podcast, Scott Minto insisted that he was really impressed by Postecoglou’s attitude over the past few days.

“Do you know what, even though I don’t think Ange did it in quite the right way, I actually love what he’s representing,” he said.

“People were talking about Spurs going to throw the game, and it was funny, pictures of Spurs fans in a half Spurs, half City shirt, doing the Poznan when City scored, and clearly, he got riled by that fan at the very end. But the fact he’s gone so far that way tells me really that that’s exactly what Spurs need.

“Don’t care about anyone else, don’t care about the rivals. I completely understand from a fan’s point of view, they don’t want Arsenal to win the title, but from Ange’s point of view, he’s trying to instil a winning culture here, and where it could be seen as a little bit too much in your face and he could’ve done it in a softer, he literally does not care.

“It is all about Spurs, it is all about winning, and if you look below and beneath his words, his meaning, it’s just what Spurs need.”

A defining moment in Spurs boss’ tenure

Ultimately, Postecoglou’s brief was not to stop Arsenal winning the title, but to take Tottenham back into the title conversation themselves.

They have shown promise, but they clearly remain some distance away from the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Postecoglou is looking to drive standards up in North London, and there was absolutely no chance of him making it easy for City. Certainly, Tottenham played like a side who had plenty to play for.

If Tottenham do get to where Postecoglou wants to take them, this week will probably be looked back upon as a really important moment.

But as Minto notes, the Australian has not got everything right in the last few days, so he has put a little more pressure on himself to prove a point in the coming months.
