Aston Villa are back in the Champions League, and that should mean that we’re in for a very exciting summer at Villa Park.

Indeed, the Midlands club now have something concrete to build on, and they can really start to show their ambition now that they’re in that elite European club.

Transfer rumours surrounding Villa have already started to do the rounds, and according to Fabrizio Romano, writing on The Daily Briefing, PSG’s Carlos Soler is a player Villa are indeed keen on.

Aston Villa want Carlos Soler

Romano shared what he knows about the £17m man.

“I expect Carlos Soler to leave this summer, it’s over for him at Paris Saint-Germain. Aston Villa are interested – the reports on this are true, but there also clubs in Spain so the situation is really open there. He could be one to watch this summer, for sure,’ Romano wrote.

Carlos Soler an interesting option for Aston Villa

This is a very interesting transfer rumour it has to be said.

Villa do have work to do heading into the summer, but it’s hard to point towards the midfield as an area that needs much improvement.

Villa’s midfield has been fantastic this season, and even rotational options such as Jacob Ramsey and Youri Tielemans probably deserve more gametime than they’re currently afforded.

Villa could probably do with an extra body through the door in the midfield, yes, but Soler won’t be leaving PSG to play a bit-part.

Unai Emery and his recruitment staff have proven over the past 18 months or so that they should be trusted to get things right in the transfer market, and if they believe Soler is the type of player they need to reach the next level, it’s hard to question that approach.

This is certainly an intriguing rumour, and one to keep a close eye on.
