Arsenal are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to apply the finishing touches to their team.

The Gunners have been in the Premier League title picture for two seasons in a row and will take it to the final day this term.

Edu and Arteta will not want to rest on their laurels, so we’re likely to see more additions when the market opens in a few weeks’ time.

Midfield is an area in which Arsenal could strengthen, amid uncertain futures for the likes of Thomas Partey, Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Now, a report from Spain has spoken about the valuation of a reported Gunners target who has been deemed a potential heir to Kevin De Bruyne.

The player in question is Xavi Simons, and Sport have reported that Paris Saint-Germain are willing to start discussions at €60million (around £52million).

Admittedly, the report does say Barcelona want Simons and vice versa, but the Blaugrana are prioritising a defensive midfielder and a winger, and ‘cannot invest’ in the 21-year-old too.

This could give Arsenal a way in, as they – plus Bayern Munich – have ‘enough cash’ for Simons.

Xavi Simons a realistic target for Arsenal but competition will be fierce

Whatever happens at Arsenal this season, they’ll fancy their chances of convincing Simons to join them if Barca can’t sign him, as the Gunners are a strong club on the up.

At just 21 years of age, Simons has a star-studded CV with multiple trophies, and it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop.

In March, CaughtOffside claimed that Manchester City were also eyeing the ‘world-class’ Dutchman.

They described Simons as a player ‘highly appreciated by Guardiola and considered De Bruyne’s possible heir.’

Previous reports suggested PSG were only willing to loan Simons out, so this is an exciting development that suggests Arsenal could potentially sign him permanently.
