Paul Merson has predicted the result of Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Manchester City tonight.

The Arsenal legend will be hoping for a favour from his former side’s rivals, with the game set to be a defining one in this season’s title race.

Ange Postecoglou’s side also remain in with an outside chance of securing a top-four finish after Aston Villa drew 3-3 with Liverpool last night.

Tottenham would need to win both of their final games while also relying on Villa to slip up at Crystal Palace on the final day.

A Manchester City victory tonight would also see Pep Guardiola’s men move one step closer to securing their fourth consecutive Premier League title, at the expense of Arsenal.

But Paul Merson is expecting no favours from Arsenal’s north London rivals this evening, claiming he’d rather City be playing against Burnley.

Merson’s Tottenham vs Man City prediction

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Merson delivered his verdict on tonight’s game and backed City to run out 4-1 winners.

“I can’t see anything but a Man City win. I know Ange Postecoglou has said they want to win this game, but he’s obviously not going to come out and say the last thing he needs is for Arsenal to win the Premier League! There will be Tottenham fans with ‘Manchester Hotspur’ flags and if Spurs somehow end up winning, you wouldn’t want to be the player who ends up scoring the winning goal!

“If Man City go ahead, I’m pretty sure Spurs fans will be signing ‘Are you watching, Arsenal?’ while they are two or three-nil down. As someone who is rooting for Arsenal in the Premier League title race, I’d rather Manchester City face Burnley away than Tottenham this weekend.

“Man City have struggled in this fixture in recent years, but Harry Kane used to play for Tottenham at the time. At the moment, the defending champions are just breezing past teams and that must be so demoralising for Arsenal, who have done incredibly well to take the title race to the last day. Last week, Tottenham beat Burnley but the Clarets were slicing through them like a knife through butter, so I can’t see anything but a Manchester City win.

“Phil Foden has been the main man for Pep Guardiola this season and I believe he has been the standout player in the Premier League. Cole Palmer has done great things at Chelsea, but the pressure is different at Manchester City and Foden has scored big goals in big football matches to take them within touching distance of another Premier League trophy.”

Tottenham vs Man City last clash

City picked up their first win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in January thanks to a late Nathan Ake goal.

It was the first-ever goal they’ve scored at Spurs’ new stadium having failed to find the back of the net in six visits to north London. 

Guardiola would undoubtedly love a repeat of the FA Cup third-round clash, which would leave his side needing maximum points at home to West Ham on the final day.

As for Spurs, they did pick up a 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium in December but Postecoglou’s men have been far from convincing of late.

Having won just once in their last five league games, it’s difficult to look past City picking up maximum points tonight.
