It has just emerged that Manchester United equalled an unwanted club record following a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

United have endured a torrid season under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag and look set to miss out on a European finish.

They could yet qualify via the FA Cup if they were to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the final later this month.

Though, few would predict a United win after a number of sub-par performances, particularly defensively.

Injuries have indeed played a part, though, ten Hag must take a portion of the responsibility for this concerning statistic.

Manchester United equal club record for most home defeats

It has just come to light, that United equalled the club record for most home defeats in a single season yesterday, as they picked up their ninth.

The Red Devils haven’t lost nine games at home since 1974, when they were relegated in 21st place on 32 points after 42 games.

That aura of invincibility around Old Trafford has completely diminished this term and ten Hag must find the route of the problem over the summer if he remains the manager.

Several reports have been linking Gareth Southgate as his potential successor.

A big summer overhaul is needed

It’s become pretty evident, that United need a big summer overhaul if they are to bridge the gap between them and the top four next term.

Their defensive woes need to be addressed and perhaps a midfielder to partner Kobbie Mainoo, who would benefit from an experienced head next to him.

A goalscoring winger should be on the list, too.
