Paul Merson has shared his prediction for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Burnley this weekend, as Ange Postecoglou’s side look to end their current losing run.

A promising first season for Ange Postecoglou in North London is threatening to end in real disappointment, with Tottenham losing their last four games and all but saying goodbye to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next year.

In fairness, Spurs have not had an easy run, with games against Newcastle, Arsenal, an improving Chelsea, and Liverpool behind them.

Next up for Tottenham is Burnley, who simply have to win to stand any chance of remaining in the Premier League heading into the final day of the season.

So it promises to be fascinating contest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Paul Merson has told Sportskeeda that he can see the game proving to be a bit of a classic.

“I don’t see Tottenham beating Manchester City, so all of a sudden, this becomes a must-win game to confirm fifth spot. A few weeks ago, Spurs were going head-to-head with Aston Villa for a place in the UEFA Champions League, but suddenly, they could be leapfrogged by Chelsea if they continue their free fall,” he said, as he predicted a 3-2 home win.

“Burnley miss chance after chance and concede a lot of goals, so I’m going for a Tottenham win in a game that could see a lorry load of goals.”

It would be a shame if Tottenham could not get back to winning ways before the season concludes, particularly with some starting to, predictably, question Postecoglou’s methods.

There is absolutely no question that Tottenham have taken several strides forward this season, when you consider the mess the club were in when Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini both left last year.

But they remain a work in progress, and Postecoglou is going to need longer to turn Spurs into the force they threatened to be in the opening weeks of the campaign.

By the time next season arrives, few will probably remember what happened against Burnley on the penultimate weekend of the season, but for now, it feels like an important game for Spurs to prove a bit of a point.
