TBR understands Newcastle United have told Miguel Almiron that he can leave the club this summer and the Saudi Pro League are gearing up a bid to land him.

The Paraguayan almost moved in January but a deal with Al-Shabab failed to materialise after they launched a bid.

TBR is now told that Almiron – a huge fans favourite at St James’ Park – is ready to move on after it became apparent this season that he was no longer a first-team regular under Eddie Howe.

The Saudi Pro League remains the most likely destination, but the South American has strong interest from elsewhere.

Newcastle tell Miguel Almiron he can leave this summer

The one time Atlanta United star has a lot of admirers in MLS, whilst TBR also understands that there are some rival Premier League clubs who are also showing an interest.

Almiron has been unable to replicate the outstanding form that he showed last season, when he scored 11 Premier League goals to help the Magpies qualify for the Champions League.

This term, the 30-year-old has managed to find the back of the net on just three occasions in the top-flight, with his most recent strike coming in the 3-0 win over Fulham back in December.

Almiron has also only completed 90 minutes twice in the league since that game.

Magpies looking to bolster transfer kitty with player sales

Newcastle have not been able to seriously splash the cash since the new owners arrived at St James’ Park, so selling players is going to be important over the coming months.

Despite Almiron’s popularity, letting him go makes sense while he is someone who could attract a decent fee. The £20 million signing has proved a lot of people wrong during his time on Tyneside.

A move to Saudi would likely benefit Newcastle most financially, but it will be very interesting to see if any Premier League sides do indeed make a serious move this summer given that he has shown what he can do in England’s top-flight.
