It has been a fairly quiet summer of recruitment at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and Edu Gasper.

Only one new face has arrived in the form of Riccardo Calafiori, while the Gunners are still stuck with fringe players they presumably would have hoped to offload by now – such as Reiss Nelson, Aaron Ramsdale and Eddie Nketiah.

Reports suggested that Arsenal wanted to sign one of the Turkish Super Lig’s most exciting talents this summer – but he has now agreed to join Brighton…

Ferdi Kadioglu agrees Brighton move amid Arsenal rumours

Fabrizio Romano now claims that Ferdi Kadioglu has agreed to join Brighton.

The Seagulls still need to agree a fee with Fenerbahce for the Turkey international – although the player himself has given the green light on a move to the Amex Stadium.

It comes after Sacha Tavolieri claimed that Arsenal have held talks about signing Kadioglu this summer.

Another Turkish news outlet in Anjansspor even stated that Arsenal had seen a £17m bid rejected for Kadioglu by Jose Mourinho’s side, after an impressive 2023/24 campaign in which the Fenerbahce No.7 scored three goals and provided five assists in 51 appearances from left-back.

The man from Arnhem is typically used as an inverted left-back, so you can understand why Arteta is keen amid doubts over Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Emirates Stadium.

Turkish news outlet Nutuk added that Fenerbahce told Arsenal to pay £30m for Kadioglu after a recent enquiry.

Riccardo Calafiori may have changed the situation

It feels unlikely that Kadioglu – who has been called a “superstar” footballer – would have agreed to join Brighton if Arsenal were still a genuine option for him to join.

Therefore, we believe the signing of Calafiori – who looks set to be used as an inverted option from the left at Arsenal – could have led Arteta to change his mind about signing the Turkey international.

Of course, there is still every chance that Arsenal come in and hijack Brighton’s agreement, with UEFA Champions League football to offer targets, something the Seagulls cannot provide.

However, the successful capture of Calafiori potentially lessened Arsenal’s desire to sign Kadioglu this summer.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Brighton must still agree a fee with Fenerbahce before a medical can take place.
